Flights To St George Utah

St George has only a few daily flights to St George from Salt Lake City SLC.  At this time Delta Airlines is the only game in town and don’t expect to be on a nice jet.  They fly little commuter planes in and out of here as we have a very small runway here at SGU.

So what are your options?  What most people who come here do is fly into Las Vegas and rent a car.  If you are bringing a family get an SUV for gear and comfort.  Vegas is about a 2 hour drive to St George Utah, 3 hours from Zion National Park, and 5 hours from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.  Why Las Vegas? well it’s closer than Salt Lake City and has many more flights from more major cities than Salt Lake has.  What the locals mostly due when we come and go is take the st George Shuttle.  $30 a head one way verses 250 miles round trip in your car plus parking and gas.  As an aside it used to cost me $25 bucks to go 20 miles to my home in San Diego so the Shuttle is a bargain by comparison as a single person, a family would be better off renting a car.

Once the new airport is complete in January of 2011 things will start changing.  I’m sure market studies are being done right now to plan for regional flights to St George from major cities like Phoenix, Los Angeles, Denver, San Francisco, and Calgary, to name a few possibilities.  Once people catch on that Southern Utah is more accessible the flights will increase, cats will starts kissing dogs, and the world will become a better place to be alive in.  But seriously The Geology here is breathtaking, the people are genuinely nice, and there is something in the water that makes people live longer here.  Actually Utahan’s do live significantly longer than our brethren in Nevada.  Or it could be that everyone in Nevada smokes, drinks, eats too much and generally lives an unhealthy lifestyle, just my opinion.

So, plan your vacation before the crowds show up and ruin it like they did to Disneyland.
