St George Utah Airport

Welcome To St George Utah Hotels Airport Page

The St George Utah Municipal Airport currently sits upon a mesa north of highway 15 off of Bluff st.  It is relatively small and designed as a municipal airport but it is no longer capable of serving the needs of the region as the runway is too short to handle regional jets and the runway can not be lengthened or widened as the mesa it is built upon is just too small.  Once the new airport is built and if there is enough demand there should be many flights to St George Utah on a regular basis.

In the 1990′s studies were done and plans were made to build a new airport that would be able to serve the region into the next century and beyond.  The new airport is being built now between St George and Washington 5 miles south east in St George.  It will be a bit of a challenge to get to as there is an uplifted ridge separating St George from the Airport and there is no way to go around from Washington either.  The only access road at this time will be via The Southern Parkway, a 4 lane divided highway that is still under construction.  Eventually the parkway will connect Interstate 15 at milepost 2 to the city of Hurricane.  The deals are still being made with the landowners so don’t expect it to be complete in this decade.  Once the parkway is complete it will provide much easier access to Zion Nation Park and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

The benefits of the new airport will be numerous.  Lets look at the region at a macro level.  The geology here is magnificent.  St George is the Gateway to Zion N.P. Bryce Canyon N.P., the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, and Lake Powell.  Is there any wonder why people are looking for flights to St George Utah?  Currently there is only one airline providing daily service to St George, it’s Delta and it’s only to and from Salt Lake City.  Once the new 9300 foot runway goes in we will be able to  host regional jet aircraft like 737′s and Airbus 319′s.  Then other major airlines will be able to start offering regular service from Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Denver, and beyond.

Many people are wondering about flights to St George Utah.  As it is now it takes 5 hours of power driving to get to the North Rim from Vegas.  I used to drive here from San Diego and it was 11-12 hours and when you rolled in you were beat.  I’m sure that when we make it easier for people to come to Southern Utah more and more will, they will tell their friends and we will all benefit as this place truly is a place to see and to experience.
